Michael Berkery's Autobiography: Began studying martial arts in 1971 at age 16. First discipline was Japanese Kyushu which was for one year. Trained in Korean Tae Kwon Do for four years. Trained in Northern Shaolin Chang Chuan (long fist) for sixteen years. This art opened up even more avenues of growth and became the main focus of study until 1991 at which time an invitation was received to attend a seminar at the Kali Academy of Martial Arts / Institute Of Chinese Kickboxing • Jun Fan Gung Fu; hosted by Sifu/Guro Bud Thompson and instructed by Guro Dan Inosanto. It made connections of all the past experiences and helped to illuminate them as well. It is here at the Kali Academy of Martial Arts under the tutelage of Sifu/Guro Bud Thompson that the martial arts are doing what they are intended to do, to help one grow and develop in totality. I am presently still training at the academy.
