Lionel Luna’s Autobiography:

Born and raised in Southern California, Lionel Luna was introduced to boxing by his grandfather who boxed professionally in the late 1930’s and early 40’s era. From his grandfather, Lionel learned a basic boxing stance, offense and defense as well as the love of the mental chess match that goes on in a ring.

As Lionel grew into his early teens, he continued boxing at local neighborhood clubs. Yearning for more than the skills needed in a boxing ring, Lionel started his search for a more practical style tailored for the streets.
In the early 1980’s, Lionel began training with guys from The Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts. Still hungry for knowledge, he joined The IMB Academy and trained under Richard Bustillo for several years. During that time Lionel turned to the amateur ranks of boxing to enhance his skills at a competitive level.

Heavy work schedule distracted Lionel away from daily training. However, the passion of the arts still linger. Lionel returned and became a member at The Kali Academy of Martial Arts in 1999 under the Guidance of Sifu/Guro Bud Thompson. Lionel has elevated his skills and knowledge in Jun Fan Gung Fu, Kali, Escrima, Dumog, Panantukan, Western Boxing, Silat, and various other arts.

At the Kali Academy, Lionel trains with a goal in mind. He hopes to pass on the love of the arts to the next generation.
