| Jim D. Romero's Autobiography: I started in the Martial arts in 1970. The first art I studied was the art of Western Boxing. My instructor was my grandfather who was a amateur bantam weight boxer and then became a professional. I later trained with Sensei Louis Freid, a retired Deputy Sheriff, in Shotokan Karate and went on to study with Master Sung Jin Park Tae Kwon Do. My Martial arts training was enhanced by reading various books on different styles. In 1980 I began training in San Kune Do with Sifu Milton Fong. Sifu Milton Fong was a student of Melvin Quan who was one of Bruce Lee’s students at the Chinatown school in Los Angeles, California and Jimmy Woo. In 1991 I started training in Kali/Jun Fan Gung Fu with Sifu/Guro Bud Thompson. I started teaching the beginner class for Sifu/Guro Bud Thompson in 1992. I received my Apprentice instructor certificate in 1994. Three years later I became an Associate instructor in1997. Sifu/Guro Bud Thompson awarded me with the senior instructor 2000. I am currently the senior instructor at The Kali Academy of Martial Arts • The Institute of Chinese Kickboxing • Jun Fan Gung Fu. While training and teaching at the Kali Academy I have also studied in seminar training sessions with Guro Dan Inosanto Kali/ Jun Fan Gung Fu. My other training sessions were with Pendakar Paul DeThouras–Bukti Negara, Sensei Mits Yamashita–Aikido and Brazilian Jujitsu, the late Guro Ted Lucay Lucay–Kali/Jun Fan Gung Fu, the late Punong Guro Edgar Sulite–Lameco System, and Pedro Carvalho–Brazilian Jujitsu. |
